Welcome

A Word of Welcome from your Tournament Hosts

Jaime and I would like to welcome you, once again, to the Nicole Cup 2010.  In 2005, 2007 and 2009  the Nicole Cup and Silent Auction were a tremendous success, raising close to $90,000 for the Nicole Megaloudis Foundation, enabling the Foundation to award over 25 scholarships to students in the area.   Jaime and I are delighted by the support we receive from the people of this community along with our sponsors, D.C. United, Demosphere, Adidas, Major League Soccer, Westland Enterprize Inc, Virginia Youth Soccer Association, Nike, and many, many more.  The tournament pays tribute to Nicole and her dreams that were never fulfilled. Together we have helped fulfill her dreams that were never realized.

In previous years, many of our travel soccer players had the opportunity to come face to face with their favorite soccer stars. This year we would like to expand the tournament to our recreational soccer players and have them share the family fun festivities, whilst meeting the pros and showing that soccer can be anyone’s game - played with dignity and respect to all others involved.  Everyone admires professional athletes, but no one ever thinks they will get the opportunity to play in front of one, or even stand face to face with them.  As you all know D.C. United play Chivas USA on Saturday, May 29th and each tournament participant will receive a ticket to a regular season game.  But the fun doesn’t stop there!  Once again we look to have the D. C. United soccer stars available during the tournament weekend and they will hand out trophies to the Nicole Cup Finalists.  We will be bringing back the Silent Auction with items from many of your favorite soccer stars.  Check out the Silent Auction link for some of our exciting items.

Nicole’s family will be in town to share in the excitement of the tournament.  We hope to be able to make this year’s tournament even a bigger success!  Nicole’s friends from Potomac Falls High School and Virginia Commonwealth University will be playing in a special exhibition game on Saturday against the ‘Megaloudis’ family.

We will also have a used soccer equipment drive, throughout the weekend, which will benefit the less fortunate children that play in Tahuichi.  Tahuichi is the school of excellence where Jaime Moreno played soccer before excelling and becoming a professional player for D.C.United.

We will do our best to make this a special weekend for everyone.  However, in the event there is a problem, please contact one of our Field Marshalls, Referees or Tournament Staff.  We would like to say a special ’Thank You’ to SYSA for hosting the tournament and to our Sponsors, Tournament Committee, Webmaster, and Referees who continue to ’Make It Happen.’  This has been a great experience for us and we hope that you can say the same after the tournament.

Nicole Megaloudis, a member of the VCU women’s soccer team, passed away February 9th, 2004.  Her mother and friends created the Foundation to honor Nicole’s memory and the good deeds she did for others.  The Nicole Megaloudis Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, incorporated in 2004. The Foundation was established to assist students who hope to attend and graduate college.  Scholarships are awarded based upon leadership qualities and demonstration of financial need. Their mission is to help students realize their dreams and to allow Nicole’s memory to live on.

We wish each player and team the best of luck during the tournament!  Once again, Thank You for supporting the Nicole Megaloudis Foundation.

Sincerely,

Jaime and Louise Moreno
